About us

CheMin GmbH was found­ed in Augs­burg in 1996 by Dr Wolf­gang Spiegel, a qual­i­fied min­er­al­o­gist. The com­pa­ny name reflects the inno­v­a­tive con­cept of link­ing Chemis­try und Mineral­o­gy to cre­ate added val­ue for ther­mo­chem­i­cal indus­tri­al processes.

The spe­cif­ic com­pe­tences of the geo-sci­ences trans­fer well to hot-com­plex process­es such as those found in ener­gy pro­duc­tion plants. The objec­tive of our founder, Dr Wolf­gang Spiegel was to pro­vide con­sult­ing ser­vices in the field of ther­mo­chem­i­cal processes.

Right from the start an impor­tant busi­ness field for us was neu­tral dam­age assess­ments, which still account for up to 20 per cent of our turnover today.

CheMin is still 100 % pri­vate­ly owned today. Its strength is work­force of around 40 com­mit­ted employ­ees who are all high­ly trained in their respec­tive fields. Most of them are oper­a­tional­ly active — in indi­vid­u­al­ly assem­bled teams at the customer’s site or at the in-house tech­ni­cal cen­tre and lab­o­ra­to­ry. Four expert wit­ness, six senior- and five junior experts act as project leader.

We ded­i­cate a large part of our capac­i­ty to mea­sures for the assess­ment, reduc­tion and pre­ven­tion of cor­ro­sion in pow­er plants. We work through­out Europe, and also under­take indi­vid­ual com­mis­sions fur­ther afield. Our activ­i­ties help to ensure a high avail­abil­i­ty and ener­gy effi­cien­cy in the respec­tive plant while at the same time reduc­ing main­te­nance and ser­vic­ing costs.
